Lord Krishna volunteers to be the chariot driver for Arjuna during the war between the Kauravas and Pandavas who are blood relatives, fighting for the throne of Hastinapura. Just before the war starts, Arjuna wants to see the rival army and orders his chariot driver to take him in front of them and he sees only his kith and kin in the rival army and is totally disheartened. Unwilling to get the throne by killing his own blood relatives, he throws his bow and arrow to the ground and sits in melancholy. Then Krishna consoles and encourages him with His Divine teachings to do duty without minding the result. Finally, Arjuna gets the required clarification and goes for the war.

Purpose Of Bhagavad Gita Course
Bhagavad-gita is the widely read theistic science spoken directly by the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krsna. BhagwadGita is like a ripened fruit of all Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads. Also, it is enriched by many things, facts and soulutions in the dialogue between Lord Krishna and Arjun, which is not found elsewhwere.
The purpose of Bhagavad-gita is to deliver mankind from the nescience of material existence. People are landed in the pool of difficulties and dilemmas at various junctures in their lives, same as Arjuna was in a fix just before the commencement of the historic battle of Kurukshetra. But what did Arjun do to come out of the grim situation at that point.
